Can you change a Word form to a regular document?

We created a form that we put on our website for users to fill in and email
back to us. When it comes back, we've added additional form fields to the
bottom for our staff to fill in. We don't have any previous experience using
Word forms. We are having trouble editing the forms. Some of our staff has
Word 2003, and some have 2000, and when the 2000 users protect/unprotect the
form, the fields are cleared out. Is there a way we can get rid of the form
format and just have a regular Word document again without all the form
fields clearing out?

Rather than do that, why not change your Word 2000 computers so they act
like the Word 2003 computers?
