Can you create sub-folders to store projects for different departm

I am using MS Project Professional 2007 and MS Project Server.

We would like to have the marketing and engineering departments be able to
create their own projects, and keep them separately on the Project Server.

Is there a way to create a sub-folder / directory for them on the server,
that is accessable from the "Open" dialog box?

I have the Group By drop down menu at the top, but it doesn't give me any
options. Is there something I need to set up to be able to group them?

Thanks,

SFDave

You will need to define a project level custom field based on a lookup table
of all your valid departments. You can do this in PWA>Server
Settings>Enterprise Custom Fields.

Once you tag all your projects with this project level department field you
can group by it in the open dialog box. You cannot have a default grouping
setup for the open dialog box so the PM will have to select the grouping
value each time the do a File>Open>Retrieve Projects from Server.

To control access rights to these projects, you will need to adjust the
default security model under PWA>Server Settings>Manage Users/Manage
Groups/Manage Categories.

SFDave:

It depends on what you mean by "separately." As Jonathan suggests, you can
keep these all together and show them separately using the security model.
Another option is to create a separate Project Server instance for each
group. This is much easier than the first option and allows the other group
to have it's own space. On the other hand, if you ultimately want all this
information in one place for analysis and reporting, the extra rigor
involved in setting up and managing the primary environment to accomplish
this is well worth the investment.
