Can you get rid of the invisible line around a text box?

When I create a text box, but format it so the line does not print... there
is an 'invisible line' that exists still and creates spaces when I put it in
an autoshape. Is there a way to get rid of this? An example is that I
might want to put a word in the middle of a star graphic...but the square
'box' of the text graphic blanks out much of the star graphic.

Instead of inserting a text box in the star, right-click on the star and
select Add Text. This will create a text box inside the star. Set the
internal margin to 0" to increase the space available for text.
