Canadian Dictionary

Does anyone know if there is a Canadian dictionary for this new version of Word? The only options for English are US, UK, and AUS, and none of those capture all the variants of spelling in the Canadian English language. If there is no official version does anyone know of a custom dictionary I could add?

Cheers.

THere's no English Canadian dictionary but there is a FREnch Canadian
one.

Basically what you have to do is choose US or UK and add to the custom
dictionary whenever you come to a word that your choice doesn't
recognize... er recognise.

Amazing, eh? There are twice as many people in Canada as there are in Australia, but they get a dictionary and we don't. Maybe MS figures that Canadians are all Windows users (they get a Canadian dictionary). :)

The real reason is that I am told that the "Official" Canadian English
dictionary contains only two spellings that are different from English UK.

In Australia, we have never trusted the Poms, and the 'Murricans have never
been able to spell.

So we had to put both of them right... :)

Besides which, we have a whole lot of words you lot don't even know how to
say right, let alone spell :)

For example "Melbourne" and "Tomatoe".

Once we can get you to say "Melbun" and "Tomartoh", we've gotchers fer life
:)

Not at all, Beth. John was just being, in his wisdom, extraordinarily
subtle -- taking the lead from Al Gore, who you may recall, during a visit
to a class of 7-year-olds, famously chalked "tomatoe" on the blackboard...
;-)

By the way, the reason there is an Australian dictionary in Word, as I
understand it, is that many years ago some people lobbied very hard to get
it included.

.... Proving again that Australians punch way beyond their weight... ;-))

Um, let's not stop a good waffle from being derailed by mere facts, MC! :)

B-b-b-b-but Quayle's an idiot and Gore got the Nobel prize for inventing
the internet (or something)!

Of course he does!! Piffling details such as this should not sully the
logic of M'Lerned Colleague's argument!

There are those who could argue that there should be no distinguishing
between the idiocy of someone who should never have had the presidency, and
someone who lost it to a hanging chad and inflicted upon the world George
Dubyah Shrub!!

Cheers

Yes, absolutely! You don't get off the hook for this one, Clive ;-)!

And to insult on injury he spelled it out loud that way was well. We
know now what happened to his political career.

Nope He didn't it was for his work on the environment.

And the quote that's been trampled on for years . Is that he help write
some laws and regulations , That allowed the internet to be come what it
is today. Before his work the Internet was little more than bulletin
boards and project between the Military and Universities.

Well it so old that it isn't funny anymore. Him and another senator
wrote or co-wrote legislation then helped Shepard them through congress
to set up the system we have today in the US for modern internet.

Before then as previously stated internet was little more than a
collection of Bulletin Boards, and projects between the Military
Industrial Complex and Major Universities.

Because Mr. Gore has decided to stay away from Politics get in to
environmentalism. People think he has gone off the deep end and they
bring this up as a way to make fun of him.

I know... it was a joke. One that fell on stony ground.

I don't think he's gone off the deep end at all. And he makes fun of
himself, so I do't see a problem.

I was on a flight with him notsolongago, by the way.I can report that he
carries his own suitcase, and that Canadian immigration kept him waiting
a *long* timebefore they let him into the couhtry -- and he seemed not
to be upset or throwing a "don't you know who I am?"
