not Contoured?

Simon,
Sure, but you'll have to do it before any progress is accrued on the
tasks. Go to either the Resource or Task Usage view and add the Work
Contour field as a column. Select the work contour field cell for the
first assignment and change it to "flat". Then do a fill down for the
remaining assignments.

Hope this helps.

Hi Simon G.,

You can insert the Work Contour field into the Task Usage or Resource
Usage view and then copy and paste or use the fill handle.

I would urge some caution however. Frequently work get contoured due to
*actual* work being recorded in either usage view, so all contouring may
not be incorrect or something you would want to "fix".

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

Simon,

In the Task Usage view, double click the assignment (italic) and in the
Assignment Information dialog, select Work Contour = Flat.
NB : Project will adopt the max units of the assignment as regular units.

Thanks Julie.

I'm just starting out with MSP, so please excuse my ignorance, but is there
any way of turning off contouring altogether? I mean, so that it just doesn't
happen, rather than it happening and then 'fixing' it by making tasks flat
afterwards?

Many thanks,

Simon

Hi Simon,

You're welcome and thanks for the feedback.

To your question of "turning off contouring", Project automatically uses
a "Flat contour" by default. With a flat contour the work for each
resource is spread evenly based upon the assignment units and the start
date/time of the task.

The only way that I know of to change the contour to something other
than flat is to either double click on the assignment (in the Resource
or Task Usage view) and select a contour other than flat or manually
edit the work per day on the assignment. The manual edit could also be
happening due to recording actual work.

Again, a contoured work on a task is not a "bad" thing -- particularly
when it happens because of actual work.

I hope this helps. Let us know how you get along.

Adding to the other comments, AFAIK the only way work gets contoured is if
you do something specific to the work to make it have something other than a
flat countor. So how are you making your assignments so the result is
something other than the default flat contour?
