How Can a Task Be Contoured w/o Resource Assignments?

Curious question that I have not seen. I have a user with MPP 2007 who has
tasks that are getting extended for no obvious reason:

A task w/ 2d duration, starting on 7/17, ends on 8/1. I found when I looked
at the Resource Usage view, that the task is contoured. By assigning a
resource, I could then go into the Assignment info box, and change the
contouring to flat, and the problem was resolved.

I note that there are about 20-30 tasks that all have the contoured icon
next to them....yet, none of these tasks have resources assigned to them.

Can a task inherit contouring if it came from a previous plan, and then had
the resource removed?

Is there a quick and easy way to drag something down and change all of the
contoured tasks to non-contoured?

If the tasks were cut and pasted, strange things can happen.
Not sure if this is the case with the plan you are talking about, but a
possible cause.
