Cannot accept meeting notice: attendee and organizer are the same

Greetings!

I have a user who has received several meeting notices but is unable to
accept them since each notice lists him as the meeting organizer and an
attendee. This does not occur on all meeting notices and there does
not appear to be anything unique about them.

Additional info:
Outlook 2003
Exchange 2000

Any assistance would be appreciated.
