Cannot access index.htm via Frontpage

For no apparent reason I can no longer gain access the home page
(index.htm) to edit it with FrontPage 2000. I can access and edit any of
the other 15 pages that make up the site, but not the home page. Works fine
via the browser.....but how do I edit it?

What do you mean by "I can no longer gain access?" Can you see it when you
open the web? If so, what happens when you try to open it?

I can open the web, but when I try to open the individual page (index.htm)
the program stops responding. Have tried opening it from "Folder view",
Navigation view, and by following a link from another page. The cursor
changes to an hourglass and nothing else happens. When I press Ctrl/Alt/Del
windows task manager tells me FrontPage is "Not Responding" and I have to
use "end task" to shut it down. If I try to open any other page on the web,
before trying index.htm, the pages open just fine - until I try index.htm,
then it stops responding.

I did try changing the extension from html to htm, but this made no
difference.

Problem started after I made a new page (templates.htm), where I had
problems with "auto thumbnail". Front page would create the smaller picture
but when I tried to save them the larger picture did not show up in the save
window. I don't know if this has anything to do with the index page
problem. The problem showed up when I tried to open the index.htm page to
enter a link to the new page. As it now stand I have to go to the site map
page to reach the template page. (templates refers to quilting templates -
not FrontPage templates).

Hi Clark,

Have you tried the usual repairs?

1) In Windows Explorer Find and delete all FP Temp Files
2) In Windows Explorer Find and delete all hidden *.web files
3) In Windows Explorer Find and delete the file CMDUI.PRF
4) Disable or Uninstall any FP Addins
5) Run a Repair / Reinstall on FP
6) Install all MS Office Service packs

It does have extensions. I opened it, and the page said default page. When
I open it as http://www.naturescolours.ca/index.htm, it opens it as
Index.htm

| The website http://www.naturescolours.ca does not have FP extensions
| installed so you won't be able to open the site live.
|
| See: http://www.naturescolours.ca/_vti_inf.html this would have returned
a
| FP page if extensions were installed....contact your host.

All repairs mentioned below, including uninstalling and reinstalling
FrontPage - and I still cannot get the index.htm (home page) to open in
FrontPage to allow me to edit it.

Any other suggestions??

Wow, this is weird. I'm not seeing the extensions result page and dnswizard
is showing apache and no extensions too.

I gave up trying to find out why the Index page would not open. I created a
new index page and deleted the original one that I could not open through
FrintPage. No idea why it would not work, but decided it was time to move
on. New index.htm page opens just fine in FrontPage and saves the edits.
If anyone comes up with an idea as to what the problem could have been I
would be interested in your theory...
