Cannot access read-only document

I hope someone can help

Had to reinstall Win2k Pro after Blast last month. Program suggests
setting user & administrator acct despite being sole user to avoid
accidental config changes when using pc as admin.

Problem now w/ Excel 2k is there are workbooks I cannot open regardless
of how I log in. The message is "cannot access read-only document ___"
I tried changing doc to read-only, hidden and tried opening it w/ all
programs on my pc. Microsoft online suggests saving the file to
another "non-network" drive, but I cannot access the program.

I have also changed my user setting to admin, back up user, power user,
etc., all with no benefit.

When I open props of other worksheets, there are four tabs, but only
one with trouble files

Did you try this

Reboot first and then

Delete all the files and subfolders in your \Windows\Temp directory (Win95/98/ME),
or your \Documents and Settings\<user>\local settings\temp directory (Win2K/WinXP)

Whne MS says to save file to non network drive -- they mean to try it using
Explorer or my computer not from within Excel

Clean your temp directories, clean them on the network,
