"cannot be accessed" error opening file on network server

With Office Excel 2003, I'm getting the standard "filename.xls' cannot be
accessed. The file may be read-only...." message that is listed in article
835234, but I am getting it when I am trying to OPEN the file from a network
location. Is there any way to bring up the existing network copy of the file?
