Cannot connect to POP3 server

Hi,

I'm a bit stuck with my girlfriend's PC; They are running XP Home with 3
accounts. using Outlook Express 6. Her Dad can still log on to Outlook
Express & connect ok (his mail account is the default), but if either my
girlfriend or her mum try, they get the error message:

The connection to the server has failed. Account: '<account name>', Server:
'localhost', Protocol: POP3, Port: 110, Secure(SSL): No, Socket Error: 10061,
Error Number: 0x800CCC0E

They recently installed AVG Free Edition virus software, it would make sense
that this is causing the problem (their POP3 server is now localhost, which I
was told would point toward virus software?), but her Dad's accont still
works fine, and the others won't work even if you turn the E-mail virus
scanning off?
I have limited knowledge of such things, hope somebody can help! Thanks a
lot.

Ask in an Outlook Express newsgroup.

The "localhost" value is the culprit

I use AVG and I've never had it modify the server settings. Other
ill-behaved software, like Norton Antivirus, does that, however.
