Cannot connect to the configuration database - Project Server to S

Lee

I have installed Project Server 2003 and Sharepoint in-line with the
installation guide. Everything has been working fine. Created a public
documents site and a project documentation site all a few weeks ago.
However, this week for no apparent reason I cannot access any of the sites.
The error I keep getting is "Cannot connect to the configuration database".
I am sure no changes have been made to the server (both Project and STS
reside on the same server).

Has anyone ever had this happen to them? Can anyone offer any advise or
guidance?

Regards,

Lee

Hi Lee,

Try this
1) Login to PWA
2) Click on admin
3) Click on Manage Windows Sharepoint Services
4) Don't make any chages and click on save changes

Thanks

Hi G,

Thank you for the assistance. I followed the steps but the message
displayed after step 4 was "There are no site templates installed on the
specified server running Windows SharePoint Services. Verify that the web
server is properly extended with Windows SharePoint Services."

What I don't get is the fact that NO changes have been made on the server.

If any further advice and guidance could be offered, I would appreciate it.

Regards,

Lee

Are you certain that you didn't use identities with expiring passwords? Some
folks will use their own credentials to install system services, in an
attempt to speed things up, forgetting that passwords on regular accounts
expire. The error is simple. It means that the SharePoint service can't
connect to the database that tells it where its data is.
