Cannot copy worksheet to another file

I have two files AAA.xls and BBB.xls open in Excel 2000. Each contains
several worksheets. I'm trying in vain to copy the contents of a sheet
in AAA to an empty sheet in BBB. No matter what I try, I fail, getting
this message:

Neither of those two options works.

Yet I can paste the clipboard data into the same worksheet or into a
new worksheet in the same file AAA.XLS.

Anyone know what's going on here please?

the best way to do it is to open both files => Rightclick on the tab of
the sheet you want ot copy => Move or Copy => Select workbook B in the
dropdown field and activate "Create a Copy"

Or copy the data range in file A => select workbook B and the expected
sheet => Select A1 => Paste

Thanks Claus, both those do the job.

It seems that selecting the 'global' position (to the top left of A1)
doesn't work reliably, either on the copy or paste, or possibly both.
Any idea why?
