Cannot delete contacts Outlook XP Messaging Interface Error

I have Outlook XP and Windows XP Pro. I have contacts within this program
(updated to SP3) that I cannot delete. When I attempt to delete these items
I receive the following message:

"The messaging interface has returned an unknown error. If the problem
persists restart Outlook."



Can anyone help?
