Cannot delete or move emails from Outlook inbox

When I try to delete some older emails from my inbox I
receive a message "The messaging interface has returned an
unknown error. If the problem persists, restart Outlook".
The problem does persist and restarting Outlook has no
effect. Any suggestions as to how to overcome this problem?

Please report your Outlook version.

Some things to try: compact your mailbox, dragging emails to deleted folder,
....
