cannot delete word document

I am cleaning up home folders on our school network while
students are gone and have come across some Word documents
that will not delete. The names are very long. I can't
even rename them. I have tried taking ownership as the
administrator also. How can I get rid of these documents?

Is this still true even with Word shut down and after a Windows restart?
