Cannot download Access 2007 templates

When I try to download Access 2007 templates, this message pops up:
Template "Personal contact manager.accdt' could not be instantiated. The
Table "Contacts" could not be read from the template file. The object may be
in an unrecognized format or contain invalid data.
Please advise.
Thank you.

Do you have Access 2007 installed?

Perhaps someone else can offer a suggestion.

If no one else responds that they have experienced the problem, then there
is likely a problem with your installation of Access / Office 2007 -- you
might try a "repair" of the installation, which sometimes helps (though I
have never, personally, had a repair to solve whatever problem I had -- I
have had a complete uninstall and reinstall solve problems on occasion, but
I wouldn't advise that just on the basis of template download problems).

Most odd. I can't reproduce this at all.

Can you give me some specs on your setup?
Operating System, LAN, how you're accessing the web, other Access/Office
programs/ versions installed etc.

Does this happen with all templates or just certain ones? Can you list the
ones causing a problem?

Thanks,

I seem to get the odd ones...
OS Win Xp (all updates performed)
DSL connection, NO LAN
OFFICE 2007 Ultimate all versions installed and updated (not OE)
I did have MS Accounting installed but removed it (didn't need)
I had Norton Internet Security installed (completely removed and retried to
open template with no improvement)
MSIE 7 sp2
Gateway FX400 X dual processor (probably not important but i have seen
issues with computer manufactures and software)
I was trying just the Northwinds template originaliy but have tried other
Access templates since and they ALL have the same issue.
The other system (the one that works) is a laptop using the same internet
access point. I did notice a brief message on the working system that
mentioned something about "office security" I have not seen that message on
the non-working system. Also - tried to use the microsoft on-line help (the
one where they download tools to check and report back to Microsoft. Anyway
it gets to about 50% completion then the webpage errors out and says to try
again later)
Thanks
John

Here is an item that may be of interest...
I downloaded the template on a laptop and transfered the file via thumb
drive to my pc, i can open the database with no issues. Could this be a
"policy" or security issue
on the affected desktop?

I'm also having the same issue you are having. I tried doing the repair but
was unsuccessful. Hopefully someone can post a solution to this issue.

We have a request for any of the three people in this thread seeing this
issue to send me an accdt file from your machine for analysis here.

Essentially, we want to see if the template file (.accdt extension) is
corrupted. If it's being downloaded properly, it should live in your
temporary Application Data folder. If you search your entire drive for
"*.accdt" and include hidden files/folders you should find it.

Send me a message via the Contract form on my website listed below and I'll
contact you for a place to e-mail the template file.

Thanks,

Hi Jeff,

When I open Access 2007 and select "Local", Contacts and "Create" that's
when i get the message John was describing. I also have the Office 2007
Professional Plus package for students and faculty. I am running this
software on an XP Professional operating system with 1 GB of memory.

What I did last night is uninstalled Office 2007, restart and reinstall
Office 2007 however the problem is still there. I will send you the *.accdt
file later today when I get out of work. Hopefully you can find something.
I purchase this book called Access 2007 Step by Step (by Microsoft) so I
could learn about the software and I can't continue the book if I am having
problems.

Jeff, for some reason I am unable to find the *.accdt files and I am also not
able to find the Application Data folder on my machine. Do you have the
directory?

Hi again,

I was able to find *.accdt template files in my template folder (under
Program Files). Let me know where I should send these files.

Thanks again,
Gilbert

Sorry i have missed some of this thread, for some reason i stopped receiving
notification of replies. I have been on the phone with Microsoft Access
Support Engineer reviewing file versions between working laptop and
non-working desktop. As of Jan 14, 2008 they were able to reproduce the issue
on 1 computer in the office. We went thru a lot of files, and configurations
and seem to come up with one similarity which he checking on. This was in the
file oledb32.dll so at this point he is checking to see if this was an issue.
He is supposed to be back in contact Jan 21.
If you still need, i can send you an accdt file
