Cannot edit 2003 show with 2007

I created a show with PowerPoint 2003. When I open it with PowerPoint 2007,
it will not let me edit it. I want to change some text in a text box on the
first slide and it won't highlight the text box when I click on it.

There is something in the title bar about "compatibility mode", so I thought
I would do a Save As. Both Save and Save As are disabled.

I have a large library of slideshows that I have put together over the years
and I really need to be able to edit them. Is it possible?

Yes,
Not sure about before Office 2007 SP1 but with Office 2007 SP1
installed, it now gives the option to convert previous versions to 2007.
Just noticed it myself yesterday when I opened a ppt 2003 and it gave me the
option to convert it.
Works good!!!

addendum to my first reply-

Be careful to read the info about converting (there's a "more info" link in
the window that pops up) because certain stuff may or not behave the same
way, I didn't look to carefully, and once it's converted, it deletes the
older version.

In fact it does not. My indexing program, for example, uses the automation interface to
iterate over the contents of the slide. But after saving with PPT2007, all the background
items in the slide master appear instead as objects which are considered part of the
"slide", and not part of the "master". Created a lot of problems.

I wonder if any of Office 2007 was tested with real users in real situations before its
release, and not just used by three developers who thought the new interface was cool.
