Cannot edit Visio 2003 diagram in Word 2002.

Rick Harrison

I am getting the following error when I try to edit a
Visio drawing within MS Word:

This object was created in Visio. This application(MS
Word)is not available to open this object. Make sure the
application is properly installed and that it has not been
deleted, moved, or renamed. The user having this problem
is running MS Office XP and Visio 2003.

When the same user tries to edit the diagram in Visio
(after copy/paste) the following error occurs:
An error(1415) occurred during the action Open Object.
Visio is unable to edit the Visio object.

I have uninstalled/reinstalled Visio 2003 and Office XP
and applied all available Service Patches. Right now the
work around is to have someone else save the file as
a .vsd file. After this the user can open/edit the
diagram. I would appreciate help in resolving this matter.
You can reply to [email protected] Thanks!!!

Hi Rick,

CAUSE
This problem can occur when you close multilevel embedded objects by
clicking back into the original document. When you click into the original
document, an embedded object contained inside another embedded object may
not update its object's information before it is forced to close.
RESOLUTION
To prevent this problem from occurring, do not click back into the original
document to close all embedded objects at the same time. Instead, update
and close each embedded object separately, starting with the innermost
embedded object.

For this Error : "An Error (1415) Occurred During the Action Open Object"
Error Message When You Try to Edit an Object in Visio 2003

CAUSE
This problem may occur when you try to edit an embedded object that was
created in an earlier version of Microsoft Visio and the drawing was saved
as Visio 2003 Drawing (*.vsd).
WORKAROUND
To work around this problem, save the drawing as Drawing (*.vsd) in the
earlier version of Visio. When you open the drawing in Visio 2003, the
embedded object will be converted correctly and you can edit the drawing.
