Project Server Slave

Hello,

I've got a Project Server 2007 + SP1 installation. Web/App on one
server and SQL Server 2005 on another.

The problem I have is that whenever you try to export a grid to excel
by choosing actions, export to excel, it fails. The error message
says "Internet Explorer cannot download ResAvailability.aspx from
"servername" , Internet Explorer was not able to open this internet
site. The requested site is either unavailable or cannot be found.

So this happens for almost all of the pages I try to export to excel.
The one I really need it to work for is the Resource Availability
page. So this is happening to all users. I am testing this myself on
my PC and have done the following. I have excel 2007 loaded. I have
added the site to my trusted sites list, enabled all active x and
other IE settings. Just for kicks I gave everyone full control of the
actual aspx files, just to see if something was screwy, but no go.

I've got full control in SharePoint and am the service account/admin
in Project Server. So it shouldnt be a problem with permissions in
those areas. I can export Project Center to a grid, but several other
pages just won't work with this feature.

I can connect to another instance of Project Server and export any
page to excel without a problem. So this seems to be something on the
server side.

Any suggestions would be great. Looking to avoid a reinstall.
Thanks!

We have the same issue and have a ticket open with Microsoft (we're lucky
enough to get enterprise support). Currently the Microsoft techs believe
it's an issue with the headers being set wrong on the page generated
(tasks.aspx etc.) so that the client cannot cache data correctly.

They are still trying to find out what is setting the header that way and so
far they think it's not IIS and must be the application. I'm waiting for
them to get back to me and will post more as soon as we get it resolved.

I am having the same exact problem, which has only been noted
recently. In my prior testing this has worked. I am wondering if
this is a result of Project Server SP1???

What version of Office Excel are you using? are there multiple editions of
office on the client machines?

on my personal workstation I have both Excel 2002 and 2007. On most
users workstations Excel 2002 is installed. Neither case is working.

I ran into a similar problem with a workaround posted on the thread

"Export Manageusers to Excel" in it is a support article from Microsoft that
seems to address the issue however the cure is as bad as the problem.

A partial solution.

I found a support article:

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/812935

that indicated one of the problems might be IE7 security settings -
selecting "Do not save encrypted pages to disk"

I found an article on how to do this at:

http://www.windowsnetworking.com/kb...IEandExplorer/DoNotSaveEncryptedWebPages.html

This enables the Export to Excel feature and works for workstation in the
domain and outside of the domain.

The problem is that the inability to save encrypted pages to disk breaks
Microsoft Live Meeting and other things. My current method of operation is
if something doesn't work, check to see if this has been set.

Hope this helps as a temporary fix.

Search on Export Manageusers to Excel for the entire thread.

In another discussion a Microsoft MVP indicated the reason the Project
Center and Resource Center does not seem to be affected is I was told they
are using the old ActiveX controls where everywhere else .NET code is being
used for the export.
