I am a remote user and I am connecting to the company LAN via a VPN
tunnel over Internet. When connected I am supposed to be able to use
Outlook 2000 like I was on the LAN itself.
This also worked at the beginning, but some time ago something strange
started to happen and from then on it is no longer possible to use
Outlook with a direct Exchange connection. I have had to revert to
POP3/SMTP mail handling, which is not what i want.
What happens is this:
1. I connect using VPN to the network (using a 500 kbps ADSL line)
2. I start Outlook2K and after a brief time I see my Inbox
3. Now, no matter what I do Outlook throws up an hourglass mouse
pointer
4. The title bar changes to Outlook (Not responding)
5. When I look at the VPN connection icon in the tray I see both
screens lighted as if data exchange is taking place.
6. Hovering the mouse over his shows that lots of data are being sent
and received.
7. This goes on forever, I have waited up to 3 hours in the hope that
whatever is going on will finish, but no...
8. Finally the only way out is TaskManager.
My PC is running XP-Pro with all patches applied and I use Microsoft
Office 2000 with SP3 applied. I don't have Offline Folders enabled so
the action seen is NOT some kind of synchronization either.
Can anyone explain why this happens and what I can do about it?
