Cannot hide text-ruler; no option to hide text-ruler right click s

The text-rule is omnipresent when editing text in shapes. Supposedly right
clicking a shape should offer me an option to turn off text-ruler, no
text-ruler options display. Is control of text-ruler somewhere else?
