Cannot Install after XP clean install

Eddie Mac

I was a victim of someones stupidity and had to wipe out
my hard drives. I reinstalled Windows XP Home Ed. on both
Hard drives and did all the updating prcedures. Now it
either won't let me install programs or if it does it
gives me an error of some sort when I try to access them.
With Office 2000 it tells me "could not open Installation
Package" and terminates the installation. What the hell is
going on, and what is the remedy????

I have a similar problem. Only it occurred after the
running of add/remove programs to remove the remnants of
a corrupt office 2000 system.

Make sure that you run disk cleanup before trying to install. Also close all
running programs--in particular any AV ones

Hi Eddie,

With regard to Office 2000, what may have happened is that the locally
cached Windows Installer package (.msi) file may have been damaged or
corrupted

Can you let me know what is the exact and complete error message you
receive when the installation aborts.

Thanks,

KunalS [MS]
