Cannot install Office 97 behind 2003

We just received a new Dell laptop with Office 2003 preloaded. I have
tried to install Access 97 to coexist but have had no luck. I
currently have Office 2k3 with Access 97 running fine on a number of
other desktop PCs. Has anyone else experienced this issue?

When I fire up setup for Office 97 and click on the "Install Office"
button I get an hourglass for about 3 seconds and thats it. I'm
thinking either SP2 for Office 2k3 is preventing installation or
perhaps the Windows Installer 3.1.

Yes, I know it's time to say goodbye to 97. We have a number of db
apps that we are in the process of converting, but in the meantime I
need to get Access 97 running. Any help greatly appreciated.

Thanks Carey, but think I have a different issue as setup won't even
run. When signing off or shutting down I receive the following error:

NTVDM.exe failed to initialize properly (0xc0000142).

So I'm afraid that removing 2k3 and installing 97 first won't help if
the old Acme setup for 97 won't even run under XP SP2 (DEP disabled).

Thanks,
G.

I had a similar problem a year ago. I resolved it by installing Access
97 first and then installing Office 2003.
