Cannot open a .csv file

I am trying to do a mail merge (create labels) in Word
2000 with the source document being an .csv. When I try
to select the source, I received the message "Word was
unable to open the data source". What am I missing?

For starters, try renaming the file to .dat and see if that works. If it
does, then Word was probably trying to open the file using ODBC rather than
its internal text converter, and failing because it did not lke the look of
something in the file.
