Hello,

I have a project that I cannot open locally. It shows in the project server
web interface, you can view it the web interface, however the project cannot
be updated or opened by a local install of project.

The error that comes up is "Project Server was unable to find the specified
project. Check the project name and version. If the problem continues,
contact your server administrator.

Any help will is greatly appreciated.

thank you in advance.

Hi Andy,

clearing the cach may not be enough. If this doesnt work please do the
following (which essentially clears the cash and all folders whithin the cash
folder)

1. Open MS Project
2. Go to Tools > Local Project Cash
3. Choose Cash settings
4. Copy the cash location path
5. Close MS Project
6. Open the windows explorer and past the cash location path you copied
7. Delete all folders within the path
8. Open MS Project
9. Open the Project by choosing Open > retrieve the list of all projects.
See if you can find the project and try to open it.
Let us know how it worked.
Thanks

Which version? I seem to remember a similiar problem in 2003, which
necessitated a manual update of one of the SQL tables.

Hello,

thank you for the reply. However I can't locate the project cache setting.
We are using Project Server 2003 and Project Pro 2003

Okay, trying to think off the top of my head as I don't have a 2003 system in
front of me and this issue was 24 months ago..., but you'll need to check the
msp_projects (or similiar) table. Make sure that the full name of the
project is there in the name column - you'll be able to compare with the
other columns. My issue was that it had been saved without the .published
suffix. PWA could see it, but project couldn't. This may or may not help,
but worth a try.

Andy:

Try making an ODBC connection to the database and opening the project
directly from the database. If you can, open it and save it as an mpp file,
then delete the one in Project Server and import the project back to the
server. Let us know how you get along.
