Office/Outlook 2003 SP-1, XP SP-2, Dell Dimension.
Was working fine, not aware of changes associated with problem.
Problem = .PDF attachments will not open in Adobe 6.01 (or 6.02).
Funny thing - if I forward the attachment to second computer and then
'forward it back' to the first computer, the first computer can then open the
attachment OK. The second computer can also read the file OK

Detailed background:
Previously also .JPGs would not open - found that despite association for
..JPGs being Microsoft Fax Viewer, the Microsoft Photo Editor (Office 2000)
was dispatched instead (very odd!). Removed Photoeditor (and all vestiges of
Office 2000), had to re-set association from Adobe Photshop (don't know how
it chose that) to Fax viewer - that was OK. Great, but:
Still couldn't open .PDFs. So: Uninstalled Adobe 6.02, and re-installed to
Adobe 6.01, association was correct for .PDF, but continues to fail on open
with message like:
"Filename, directory name, or volume label syntax is incorrect".
Tried 'repair option' for Office/Outlook. No change.
Big problem, cannot read business based communication. Any suggestions?
