cannot open data files in microsoft programs after latest updates

Help! I am set for automatic updates and use Office Professional Edition
2003. After the last updates (April 2006) were installed I am unable to open
any data files within the Microsoft programs that I use, ie: Word, Publisher
and Excel. I have to restore my computer to a previous time in order to
work. All of my data files are stored within My Documents. Everything was
working perfectly until these latest updates. Can someone tell me which
update would cause this? Thanks!

Thank you - I followed the resolution you suggested under
support.microsoft.com 918165 and it seems to have corrected the problem. The
update KB908531 was definitely the problem. Thanks for your help.
