cannot open database - Access2000 error

My Access 2000 can't open any of my projects and I don't know why. It may
be, because I switched OS from Win98 to Win XP ? I tried to open it on
different machines as well. On some of them I can, on some of them I can't.
Example, on my co-worker's XP I opened it without a problem. On my laptop XP
I can't. On my desktop XP at home, I can't, but on my wife's old Win98
laptop it opens with no problem. Can somebody help me? The actual error is:
CANNOT OPEN DATABASE C:\<FILENAME>. IT MAY NOT BE A DATABASE THAT YOUR
APPLICATION RECOGNIZES, OR THE FILE MAY BE CORRUPT.
thanx.

Hi.

Even though this error message is being displayed by Access, it's not an
Access or Jet error message. It's an ODBC driver error message. Make sure
that all of the latest service packs have been applied to these computers.
For Access 2000, the computer needs Microsoft Office 2000 SP-3, Jet 4.0
SP-8, and MDAC 2.8 SP-1.

And it's a possibility that the copy of the database on the problem
computers may, in fact, be corrupt after being opened by a computer with a
previous version of MDAC or Jet service pack installed. Always make sure
that all computers that open or connect to a database have the same versions
of Jet 4.0 and MDAC installed to avoid this issue.

Thanx '69 Camaro.
I started with Office 2000 SR-1 update. When it was about in the middle I
got: " Error 1328. Error applying patch to file C:\Config.Msi\PT70.tmp. It
has probably been updated by other means, and can no longer be modified by
this patch. For more information contact your patch vendor. "

This error was repeated about 18 times, every time I had to hit "IGNORE", so
it can continue, but every time for different " PT--.tmp file ranching from
PT70.tmp to PT88.tmp. The update finished with no errors. After re-booting
Access works again. Is this O.K. ,or should I continue with
troubleshooting\updating?

Hi.
This error was repeated about 18 times, . . . The update finished with no
errors. After re-booting Access works again. Is this O.K. ,or should I
continue with troubleshooting\updating?

The patch probably didn't install correctly, and Office 2K really needs
those patches, especially for Access 2K, which is one of the buggiest
versions.

There are a few different causes for this error, and depending upon the
cause, different remedies are needed. You may read about this error message
and the remedies from the list on the following Web page and see whether any
of the circumstances apply to your computer:
