Cannot open a MSword 2000 (doc.) in MSWorks Word (6.0) Receive error msg
Wkswp has caused an error in MSWRD832.CNV or Works cannot open
drive:\path\file. The file may be in use by another application, the file
format may not be supported by any of the installed converters, or the file
may be corrupt.

Other discussion group sent me an article previously published under Q268216
which stated resolution, "save the Works Word Processor document that you
created in stept 1 through 9 of the "Cause" section as a Works 6.0 document
in MSWord.
I did everthing 1-9 but don't understand the last statement, OF THE CAUSE

Thanks Anne but I'm sorry to bother you again as I still have a problem. I do
not have Microsoft Word on my computer. My company uses MS word to forword
email documents to me. I have not be able to open as I have Works 6.0. They
use Windows 98 & I have Windows ME. I thought this would "fix" the problem
but I still cannot open doc. files.) I explained this on a previous post but
forgot to let you know.oops.... I do, however, have Microsoft Office 97 disk
but I'm afraid to load on my computer thinking that it will do something with
my MS Works program. Is it ok to load?
Many thanks again....

I think it's perfectly fine to load 97 on your PC. I run 4 versions of
Microsoft Office, 97 to 2003 on my XP machine. Do a custom install and
install it to C:\Office97 instead of the default folder (I like to do this
just in case!), and all should be well. I am not a Works person at all;
however, I have had it and 4 versions of Office all running on the same PC
before, so I don't see an issue. Go for it! :)
Note: Something that might be confusing for you is SOME versions of
Microsoft Works COME with Word in them. I assume yours does not. You may
first want to search your hard drive for a file called winword.exe and if
it's found, create a shortcut to it and double-click it. That will be Word.
Somehow, I don't think you have it, but you might!

Hope it helps!

Just a slight addition to what Anne has said.

1. You should be able to open Word documents with WordPad

2. It seems deliberately designed to confuse, but there are two Workses -
"Works" and "Works Suite". It is Works Suite which has Word as a component.

And just to repeat what Anne said, don't be afraid to load Office 97; it
won't conflict with Works. You'll soon find yourself using Office instead of
Works all the time as it has so many more facilities.

Workses?? LOVE IT!! Is that proper spelling/english? As if I would know...
:)
Thanks for clarifying the Suite thing, you sweet thing. I forget that
"Suite" is the real key there.
