Cannot open Excel Preferences

I'm in excel, and when i go to the menu bar: excel/preferences, nothing shows up. the toolbox flashes for a moment but no other sign...

Your prefs may be corrupt. Try:

With all Office apps closed, rename/delete/move this file:

~:Library:preferences:com.microsoft.Excel.plist


(where ~ is your home directory). Restart XL and try to open preferences.

If that doesn't work, again, with all Office apps closed,
rename/delete/move the

~:Library:preferences:Microsoft:Office 2008:

folder. Restart XL. (If you rename or move the folder, you can add back
the non-XL files later).
