Cannot open for update

I have a Word document that I copied from another computer and when I open
it I get a dialog box that says "the document cannot be edited because it
contains a read only imbedded font". I can go to Tools|Options and then
click the Save tab and remove the check mark from the Embed True Type Fonts
box but when I go to the File menu to save the file, the save options are
still grayed out.

How can I open this document for update

Have you tried, in addition to turning off the embedding option, also
going through the document and changing all the fonts to something
available on your computer? If that doesn't seem to be enough, go
through all the in-use styles and make sure none of them use a font
you've never heard of. If it still refuses to save, try copying and
pasting to a new document. (First, try copying the entire document. If
that doesn't help, copy all except the last paragraph mark. If there
are several sections, copy each one separately, leaving out the last
paragraph mark of each. You'll lose much of the page formatting, but
anything is better than retyping.)

If nothing else, this is a good lesson on why you should never, ever
use the 'embed fonts' option. :/
