Cannot open Louts 123 file

I have a customer that has sent me a Lotus 123 file. When
I try to open the file in Excel 2000 I receive the
message "Cannot open Lotus 123 file". I do have the Lotus
converter installed on my machine. I am using Excel 2000
on an NT machine with svc pack 4. Does anyone have any
ideas on how to open this file in Excel? Technet clearly
states that Excel 2000 should be able to directly open
Lotus 123 files. Your help would be appreciated. Thanks.
