Cannot open or copy word document

Michael

When I had NT4.0 I copied some word docs to a CD.
We are now on W2K and I cannot open the file from the CD.
I get the error:
Word cannot open document.
Try one of the following.
Click File, open etc...
OR
Make sure file has a .DOC extension.

Neither work.

I tried copying the file to my desktop and received the
following error:
Cannot copy (filename): Error performing inpage operation.

I searched for that error message and what I found did not
help.

Any suggestions?

Thank you
Michael

I'm not sure, but you can try this. Copy the files to your hard disk, in a
location such as My Documents. Then open them in Word. Go to Tools > Options
Security (Tab), if "Read Only recommended" is checked, uncheck it.

I would like to but I cannot copy it to the hard drive.
That is when I get the following error;
Error performing inpage operation.

Thanks for the suggestion though.

The copy process has corrupted the documents. Try opening one in a text
editor (Notepad or Wordpad). You may be able to rescue some text depending
on how badly the CD-Writer corrupted the write process.

I tried opening in notepad and wordpad. neither works because the file I am opening is 380k. is there another option or alternative to opening this file and just getting the text?

Word won't ever open a file directly from a CD because it can't create the
needed temp files in that "folder." Try copying the file to the HD, then
open it from there.
