Cannot Open Project in Professional from PWA - Not URL Difference

Hi Everyone,

I Cannot Open a Project in Professional from PWA and it does not seem to be
a URL issue since I can do it from a Windows 2000 Client but not a new XP
Client.

Is anyone aware of a difference or setting for an XP Client?

To clarify, I am logged into PWA, on the Projects Tab, I select 1 project
and CLICK OPEN, the MS Professional opens, then dies resulting in a dialog
box named "VBScript: Microsoft Office Project Web Access 2003", with error
message "The selected project(s) could not be opened in Project".

Again this all works fine on our Win 2000 Clients but this new XP Client
with all the same setups runs into this error message.

Also, I can successfully open the project directly from MS Professional, it
only seems to be when the control is transferred when the OPEN is initiated
from PWA.

Thanks.

Mike,

Maybe you want to try connecting to Project Server using a fully qualified
domain name (e.g. computername.domain.com/projectserver rather than just
computername/projectserver) or IP address
(http://172.90.130.300/projectserver)
Make sure you use the exact same address in both the URL you type in for PWA
as well as in the Project Server Profile in Project Professional.

Let us know if this helps...

Thank-you for the reply, however I am already using the fully qualified name
in both places (PWA and Prof) as specified in MS KB articles.

If anyone else has heard of any reasons why an XP Client set up exactly the
same as a Win2000 client would not work, I would appreciate your input.

Thanks.

Mike:

XP has way more security features the Win2K. So, look at the firewall
settings first, then look at browser security. With that said, the most
common cause for that message is using one URL to load Project Web Access
and a different URL in your connection account in Project Professional.

Hi Gary,

I also am having a similar issue with Project Web Access. When one of my
resources attempts to open a project in Microsoft Project Professional via
PWA, he receives the message:

"VBScript: The selected project(s) could not be opened in Project."

I have verified that his URL to load Project Web Access and the URL in his
connection account in Project Professional are the same. I confirmed that he
has Microsoft Office Project Professional 2003. We even ensured that the
project server URL was a "trusted site" in our internet explorer security
settings. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!!!

Hello,
We are having the same issue. We've had 6 laptops replaced. All of
the Windows User Profiles were migrated to the new laptops. Since
then, we have all of the previous settings and data working as they did
for all of the other apps, but we get the exact same message when
attempting to access a project, from PWA (launching Project Pro).

Any NEW user profiles created on the laptop work GREAT! No issues when
PWA/Proj Pro are configured "fresh." Just the migrated profile/users
are experiencing the issue.

I have removed MS Project-specific settings in the registry and in the
application folders, in the Documents and Settings areas, deleted
cookies, deleted Trusted Sites, and have been comparing file/registry
differences from the new profiles that do work.

I then reconfigured PWA/Proj Pro and it launches any project once in
Proj Pro, making you think that the issue is fixed!! However, when you
try another project, you're back to the same error message.

Followed all of the MS KB directions and can only assume that there is
something in a seemingly unrelated registry-key that is hanging on to
previous machine-name settings that is causing the issue.

Please do respond if you have had any success or can offer more
suggestions. As a last resort, we will just create new
windows-user-profiles and create all new settings and re-copy their
data.
