Cannot open Word documents from finder

I have recently started having problems with Word 2004. When I double click a document in finder, or Mail, the program (Word) opens, but the file does not. Same thing with a right click and open, or open with. Going through File - Open works as it should.

This seems to be known issue with Word 2008 Mac <http://www.officeformac.com/blog/-D...isting-Word-docs----Office-12-1-1-has-the-fix>, but I haven't seen it addressed for Word 2004 (most current updates don't help). Other Office files open properly.

Any suggestions?

Hi,

could it be that you are using Spaces? Perhaps the file does open after all,
but in a different Space, and you don't notice it because Mac OS X does not
automatically switch to the corresponding Space. To verify this, go through
all your Spaces and see if the document is open in one of them. If it is,
download all the latest system updates to see if that solves the problem.
