Cannot preview Java Applet

B

Brian D

Hi,
I am using a Java Applet that is indepentdent from MS. This is not a FP
extension or Hover Button. This applet has worked fine for years. It is has
a picture background and a scrolling marquee. Now I need to update the
Marquee in the applet, which I did. But changes do not take place unless it
is "previewed locally". I cannot preview it on my computer. IE6 goes
ballistic and gives me the warning download bar. I have tried to disable
this bar but to no avail.
Please note I CAN view java applets already on my site that are published on
the web. I need to be able to preview it on "my" local copy in order to
effect the changes.
Why cannot I disable the security bar in IE6? Note I have even turned off my
firewall and AV.
Does FP2003 use a local server on one's computer and if so how do I test to
see if it is running? Thanks.
Brian

What happens when you use File | Preview in Browser (not just preview)

Regardless of what you use JAVA for, other viewers won't see it. See
Murray's reply to you in your duplicate post in the addins newsgroup.

My club members see them. In fact the reason the applet had to be changed is
that our membership fee was not updated and folks were sending in the old
dues. They would quote the page on the website.

Again I am not talking about FP extensions such as hoover buttons or the
like that depend on the FP extensions being placed and working on the web
host server. My applets were updated with the new info and they are viewed
by our members.

In IE, go to Internet Properties | Advanced | Security & check "Allow active
content to run in files on my computer" and see if that works.

If not, suggest you visit the IE newsgroups.

From the Free Dictionary again
4. Hoover - a kind of vacuum cleaner
vacuum cleaner, vacuum - an electrical home appliance that cleans by suction
trademark - a formally registered symbol identifying the manufacturer or
distributor of a product

Verb 1.
hoover - clean with a vacuum cleaner; "vacuum the carpets"
vacuum, vacuum-clean
clean, make clean - make clean by removing dirt, filth, or unwanted
substances from; "Clean the stove!"; "The dentist cleaned my teeth"

Yes, I wonder what carpets these hoover buttons clean ?

But we Aussies don't use this pommy word much.
I doubt our American cousins do either

:))

Vacuum cleaners and Hoover buttons have one thing in common - they
suck.
The term Hoover button was coined way back in FP98 days - and they
were problematic then..
