Cannot Print from Word97

Just installed a new HP DeskJet printer. I can print whatever document is on
screen if I use the printer icon on the tool bar, but I cannot print from
the menu FILE-PRINT command, which gives me the option of printing whatever
pages I want or just a selection of the document. HP does not know the
solution. Does anyone here?
