Cannot print in Access 2003 on Windows Vista

The problem: A user could not print from Access 2003 in Windows Vista. After
searching the internet for similar problems and solutions, I found an issue
with having an HP printer as the default printer. This was a new HP LaserJet
1020 printer USB-attached to this computer. Access showed "no printer" and
neither the print dialog nor print preview would appear.

The solution: The user had PDFCreator 0.9.4 RC1 installed, so I changed the
default printer to that and restarted Access. Now Access could see all the
printers available and the user was able to print on the very same HP
LaserJet 1020 that was preventing the print dialog from appearing. It is
inelegant in that the user must change the default printer and restart Access
when he wants to print, and then remember to set the default printer back
when he's done. But it works around an apparent bug in Access 2003.

I just thought this information might be helpful to someone else.

I'm pretty sure that the bug is in Vista which doesn't recognize all the
printers available to Office. Hopefully, it will be corrected in the next
service pack.
