Cannot Print labels in Word 2000 SP3, can in Word 2000 SR-1

There appears to be a difference between versions of Word
2000. Users need to print mailing labels from third party
software. When one user clicks Print, Word opens up, for a
brief second schema is displayed, then the data populates
the doc, and she is able to print labels. She is running
Word 2000 SR-1. No one else can print. When they click the
button, Word opens, for a brief second the Schema is
displayed then the doc goes grey and no data populates.
They are running the latest build, patches, etc of Word
2000 SP3. That appears to be the only difference. I have
scoured the Knowledge Base, tried all sorts of solutions,
but nothing has worked. Everything looks fine from the
third party application side of things. It says it exports
the data successfully. I called the vendor and she said I
should ensure the users have Read + Write to the local
machines, they do. She also said I should try dropping the
default user. That I don't understand. Any help to resolve
this issue would be greatly appreciated. Thanks!

If they are also using Norton AV it could be the "Office Plug-in"
option in Norton causing the problem.

Various issues with the Norton option started occurring after the
Office 2003 SP3 patch.

Beth,

Thanks for your reply. Yes, we are running Symantec
AntiVirus Corporate Edition. I tried setting exclusions,
disabling real-time protection and even stopping the
service but all to no avail. Nothing worked. I have
scoured every even remotely possible KB article as well
and still the problem persists. My next step was to try
and strip every last bit of Office 2000 from the PC and re-
install but unfortuantely I have discovered that the
erase2k utility doesn't work on WinXP boxes! I would like
to confirm that this is not a problem with a Service Pack
but unfortuantely do not have a system with Office that is
SP free (other than the one system which works!) Any other
suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Thanks again for
your help.

Sincerely,

Doug

The problem isn't necessarily in the Office patch but the Norton
option.

If Norton AV was installed at one time then the DLL for the Office
Plug-in could still be registered and I suspect that is what you are
encountering.

Search for : officeav.dll

If you find it then go to Start/Run and run the following command:

regsvr32 /u "<path>\officeav.dll"

Here is a KB article that provides a few additional details. It does
not include information on Norton CE but it will contain additional
details on the unregister command if you need them:
