Cannot publish from Unix server with FPE to local XP workstation.

I maintain a website with FP2000 on Windows98 that I publish to a web hosting
company running Unix with FPE. I can publish freely back and forth between
the Unix host and my Windows98 machine running FP2000. However, when I go
home and try to use FP2003 on my XP Pro computer to publish from the Unix
server to my local computer, every time I get an error message, "You
specified identical destination filenames for some of the files you are
trying to copy. Make sure all destination files have unique names and try
again." I have looked at the files on the Unix server and there are no
identical filenames unless you count files in different directories. I
cannot figure out why I cannot publish to my XP FP2003 machine but have no
problems publishing to my W98 FP2000 machine. I'm surprised there is nothing
in the KB about this error message and FP2003 does not tell you which files
are causing the conflict. Any ideas?

Your Unix server may be case sensitive thus allowing 2 files w/ same name , different case
- View Reports all files to check
Also make sure you have checked the Remote web site properties in FP 2003 Remote Web site publishing location

Stephan,

I used the "View Reports All Files" for the first time and it was very cool.
It ultimately fixed my problem but I'm not sure why.

After viewing all files, I highlighted All and selected "Don't Publish". I
then went to Publish Web and did not get the duplicate file names error
message. So then I highlighted all the "A's" and unclicked "Don't Publish"
Then I clicked on "Publish Selected Files". When the A's worked, then I did
the same thing with the B's, etc. Expecting somewhere in the list I would
get the "you have selected duplicate file names" error message. Went all the
way to the Z's without any problems. When I was done with that, I went back
to "Publish Web" and it worked without any error message!!! I had not
changed a single thing in the Remote Web properties nor did anything other
than change the "Don't Publish" attribute off and on and then copied blocks
of files. Everything is working now but explain why this happened and why
did what I did resolve it? Strange.

I suspect this could have something to do with me trying to publish a
Publisher created web page onto my web. I've had some strange things happen
trying to do that. Publisher creates these "condensed" HTML files with XML
commands and I don't think Front Page Extensions or the web server likes
them. I'm going to search the Publisher and Frontpage forums for ideas of
how to convert Publisher pages into HTML and not break my web site.

Thank you for turning me on to View Reports All Files. That helped me get
over my brick wall.
