cannot retrieve office files

hi,

Some please help, i lost all my data after re install xp
os.I reinstalled xp operation system without formatting
hardisk due to my notebook can't be turned on after
installing the Win Poet programe.Now, i cannot retrieve
any document from the hardisk.
