Cannot save document and toolbar is inactive

I have MS Office 2003 Pro. Everytime I start a new document and click "save
as" or click the "save icon" the whole toolbar goes transparent and I cannot
save anything. I do have all the latest updates. It's making my life hell
cause I have reports due. Any help is appreciated. Thank you.

You might try renaming the "normal.dot" file to "normal.old" and then
open Word to create a new one.

Thanks Bob but I do not have that file. The closest file I found was
"NORMAL.FMT" but it did not do anything.

Another thing to add: When I click save or save as, the document locks as
well, thus no access to the toolbar.

You "have" to have it, won't work without one. In Folder Options(Control
Panel) set view to Show Hidden and System folders/files. And then also
set your search to look in system and hidden folders

I have found the file and made the change but it did not resolve the problem.
This also happens in Excel, Powerpoint etc. These programs were working
fine a week ago and then this strange thing happens.

No, normal.dot won't have any effect on spreadsheets or presentations.
Trying another possibility, in My Computer, do you have any unavailable
drives listed? If so r-click on them and pick "Disconnect". You may also
wish to open an Office application, and Run "Help", "Detect and Repair".

If this occurs in all of the applications then it could be your Office
installation is no longer activated and you are using reduced
functionality mode. Did you make any hardware changes before this
occurred? Try going to Help/Activate and see if that resolves the
issue.

If that's not the case then start one of the applications in Safe Mode
and see if you can save a file. To start in Safe Mode, hold the Ctrl
key while you are starting the program. Keep it held down until you
are prompted with "Do you want to start in Safe Mode". Once the
application starts, verify you are using Safe Mode by checking the
title bar.
