Cannot Save Files

Bill Max

Hi, I’m having trouble saving Microsoft files.
I click SAVE AS then the save as window opens with MY DOCUEMENTS and then
when I click another folder it freezes up, the hour glass appears, and says
not responding and when I close the save as window I have to click end now.
It also happens when I click OPEN.
Only happens in Word, Excel, Publisher, Microsoft Picture It and Digital
Image Pro.
Does not happen in Note Pad, Paint, IE and other programs.
Not sure if Windows issue or Office issue.
Any help would be appreciated.

Problems in Windows Explorer or the Windows shell after you install
security update MS06-015 (15 Apr-06)
http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx/kb/918165

Microsoft Security Bulletin MS06-015
Vulnerability in Windows Explorer Could Allow Remote Code Execution
(908531)
http://www.microsoft.com/technet/security/bulletin/ms06-015.mspx has
been revised to v1.2 to reflect the issues in KB918165.
From the FAQ section:
"On Tuesday, April 25, Microsoft will issue a targeted re-release of
the MS06-015 update."

Now may not be the time to learn Regedit.
I suggest you use a .reg file already done for the purpose.

http://patch-info.de/WinXP/Downloads/KB908531_Share-To-Web.zip

Unzip it, extract the .reg file to a folder, right-click it and select
Merge and confirm when asked.

Alan...
Should the targeted re-release of MS06-015 update fix my problem?
If so, no sense me messing with anything.

I hope it will fix it, but I can't promise that.
If you have the time, then wait a few days.

DO NOT change registry or uninstall Office. As Dave Peterson wrote in "Excel
and Word Hang Up..." a quick and simple fix can be found at
http://www.techweb.com/wire/security/185303742. Don't know how it works but
it
does. Page two of the article gives a link to "Kellys Korner" for the fix. It
worked perfectly.

OR wait until 04/25 when a new fix from Microsoft will hit your Windows
update, unless you have disabled it in which case you have to check for
it manually.

Why are you telling me this?
I did not advocate uninstalling Office and I gave a link to a quick
and simple .reg fix that does exactly the same as Kelly's .vbs
Registry fix (as my close friend Kelly knows)
If you read either the .reg or the .vbs fixes in Notepad, it should
become clear exactly how they work.

Alan, I used the fix you cited and followed your directions. It worked
perfectly. Thanks.
