Cannot save or open documents using Word 2003

When ever I try to save a word document it tells me the normal template
already existed and do I want to replace it. I am not trying to save a
template I just want to save as a word .doc file. Also when I try to open
any word file it says the file has a virus or is corrupt. I run my anti
virus software and it does not find anything wrong. I have un-installed
office 2003 and re-installed office 2003 and continue to have the same problem

If you are running Norton Anti Virus, disable the office plug-in option
under Preferences.
