trial version? Is this a new installation or has it always done this?
Are the Save and SaveAs just greyed out?

the version is MS Visio 2003, its a full version, those are options are not
greyed out. I can create a drawing and the only way to save the file is to
close the app so that it will prompt me to save

A few questions regarding this issue; did you receive any error messages when
you did the install, if so what were they? Did this install of Visio ever
work properly if so when did it stop working? Have you tried to reinstall
Visio with all third party applications such as anti-virus applications
disabled?
