Cannot save the file. ‘thefile.docm’ is not a valid short file name ……

This is kind of perplexing. I suspect its some sort of property of the
document, but I can't find it. I am converting my files to 2007 format and I
have successfully saved 4 previous documents.

Yes I have macros, yes I want and need them, yes I understand the risks.

I started using windows doing this kind of thing

My workaround:

I created a blank document with the appropriate style and cut and pasted all
122 pages and saved the new file as thefile.docm with no problem.

I open the file with word 2007 and try and save it, it says

it says "You’ve chosen to save this Web Page using short file names."

Where do I change that option?

Cannot save file because its not a valid short file name. see Microsoft
communities word application errors as well

Instead of Save As, Use Convert, a button that appears in the Office Menu.
Maybe I'm tripping, but thats what I thought you were doing when you did a
SAVE as to a new format.

You gotta love that error message, Cannot Save the file ...
