cannot see all of embedded object

when I insert an object in word (or powerpoint), not all of the embedded item
can be seen - parts blocked out by white rectangles. If I click on the
object to edit it though, all can be seen.

I recall a similar problem I had a couple of years ago but not the fix -
cannot find anything in MS knowledge base (hours and hours of searching). I
think I needed a file of some sort.

Does anyone have a clue?

OK - I found out - double click to open the embedded object, cursor on
it,press enter to force it!
