Cannot Send When Out of the U.S.

For whatever reason I cannot send, using Oultook, when I'm out of the U.S. I
am able to receive without any problem. This happens with either WiFi or
wired connection.

I am using Vista Home Premium.
IE 8.

Any suggestions?

Since you are off-domain when using the e-mail provider's mail server,
they don't know that you are authenticated to use their resources.
Configure the e-mail account that you defined within Outlook to
authenticate to the SMTP mail host.

When off-domain, some e-mail providers require that you use different
settings than when on-domain. They may, for example, require you to use
SSL and different port settings. You'll have to find out from them what
are their "travelling" settings.

Sorry to sound stupid, but what changes should I make to my mail or network
settings?

Thank you for your reply.

When you say "authenticate to the SMTP mail host." Are you refering to the
outgoing mail server?

Also, I understand making the setting changes, but I must assume that your
are referring to a land line connection, but what do you do if you are using
WiFi and if you are moving around a lot?

Yep, that's the one.

Incoming: POP (Post Office Protocol) or IMAP (Internet Message Access
Protocol)
Outgoing: SMTP (Simple Mail Transfer Protocol)

The targeted host doesn't have a clue or care how you obtain an Internet
connection. Whether dial-up, satellite, DSL, cable, wifi, hardwired,
Ethernet, TokenRing, or whatever, it doesn't matter to the other end how
you manage to get on the network.
