Cannot unattach a DWT in FP2003

From FP2003, when I attempt to "detach from Dynamic Web Template" it fails.

The cell components of the template remain on my page and I can remove all
but 1 cell, the primary cell. If I delete that cell, then the contents of
my page that I want to preserve is lost.

Isn't there a way to easily remove the template 100%?

When you remove the DWT, the content added by the DWT stays on the page.

Build a blank DWT. This will have the same editable regions as the existing
DWT, but no content. Attach this to the page, then detach it.
